Forecast for changes in radioactive pollution of the forest fund

Radioactive contamination of the forest fund of the Ministry of Forestry from 1995 to 2019 and forecast for 2026.

The decrease in the territory of the forest fund assigned to the zones of radioactive contamination is due to the radioactive decay of the radionuclide over time. An annual radiation survey of the forest fund lands is carried out to determine the area in the zones of radioactive contamination. Zones include territories with a density of soil pollution with cesium-137 1 Ci / km2 or more.

Refinement of the radiation situation

In 2019, work was continued to clarify the radiation situation in the leshozes with forest fund territories classified as radioactive contamination zones. A radiation survey of lands on an area of 86.0 thousand hectares was carried out in 1011 forest blocks of 34 leshozes of 5 state production forestry associations. According to the results of the survey, the territory of radioactive contamination of the forest fund of the Ministry of Agriculture decreased by 31.7 thousand ha and as of 01.01.2020 amounted to 1283.8 thousand ha or 15.21% of the total.

The radiation survey was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the technical code TKP 240-2010 (02080) “Radiation control. Survey of forest fund lands. The order of carrying out “and Change No. 1 of TKP 240-2010.

Contamination of the forest fund territory with cesium-137

In the Republic of Belarus, the territory of the forest fund, assigned to the zones of radioactive contamination, as of 01.01.2020 is 1,559.6 thousand ha, or 16.3% of the total area. The main share of forests contaminated with radionuclides is managed by the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus (82.3%) and the Department for the Elimination of Consequences of the Disaster at the Chernobyl NPP of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (13.9%)

Currently, the area of radioactive contamination of the forest fund of the Ministry of Forestry is 1283.8 thousand ha (15.21% of the total area). The largest part (69.8%) of the territories of radioactive contamination of the forest fund is assigned to zone I with a density of soil contamination of cesium-137 from 1 to 5 Ci / km2 and II (5-15 Ci / km2) (21.8%), the rest – to III and IV zones (15-40 Ci / km2) and (40 Ci / km2 and more)

FORESTRY WITH FOREST FOUNDATION TERRITORIES IN RADIOACTIVE POLLUTION ZONES
In 44 leshozes (208 forestries), the forest fund territories are assigned in the established order to zones of radioactive contamination in a certain area (in 2018 – 44 leshozes and 214 forestries).
